Palo Alto’s Jasmine Tosky Shoots Down Oldest Girls High School National Record

SANTA CLARA, California, May 21. DURING preliminary swimming of the CIF Central Coast Section Championships yesterday, Palo Alto junior Jasmine Tosky took down the oldest girls high school national record in the books.

Tosky hit the wall in 51.92 in the women's 100-yard fly, smashing Misty Hyman's 52.41 set while representing Shadow Mountain in Arizona back in 1996. Kathleen Hersey's 52.44 while swimming for Marist of Georgia will remain on the books as the national independent high school record.

Tosky's time pushed her into a tie for 19th in the all-time rankings. Dana Kirk's top time of 51.92 occurred in 2008 while representing Stanford. Tosky has a bit more work to do to catch Hyman's 10th-ranked all-time best of 51.34 set at the 1997 NCAA Championships.
