Palo Alto Gets Off To Fast Start At West Junior National Championships

Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics got off to a fast start at the Speedo Winter Jr. National Championships (West).

The four-day meet began on Wednesday evening in Austin, Texas.

Palo Alto started by winning both the men’s and women’s 200-yard medley relay. Their women’s team of backstroker Chloe Isleta, breaststroker Grace Zhao, butterflier Isabelle Henig and freestyler Brooke Schaffer won the event in 1:39.63.

Crow Canyon Country Club took second in the women’s 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.66. The team consisted of backstroker Gianna Garcia, breaststroker Zoie Harman, butterflier Maddie Murphy and freestyler Izzy Barattolo.

The bronze medal went to Scottsdale Aquatic Club. The team off backstroker Emma Broome, breaststroker Ally Yancy, butterflier Emma Segneri and freestyler Taylor Ruck touched in 1:42.23.

Palo Alto’s gold medal team in the men’s event posted a time of 1:28.03. The team consisted of backstroker Benjamin Ho, breaststroker Jeremy Babinet, butterflier Joe Molinari and freestyler Albert Gwo.

Scottsdale Aquatic Club took silver medal. The team consisted of backstroker Ryan Hoffer, breaststroker Jack Blake, butterflier Sebastian Gutierrez and freestyler Ray Van Deusen and touched the wall in 1:29.40.

King Aquatic Club rounded out the medalists with a time of 1:30.68. The team was comprised of backstroker Thomas Anderson, breaststroker Mitch Hovis, butterflier Dale Williams and freestyler Kevin Dang.

In the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay, Nitro Swimming took home the gold medal. Corban Rawls, Sean Grieshop, Micah Slaton and Taylor Abbott posted a time of 6:32.88.

Palo Alto Aquatics continued their strong night with a second place finish in the relay. The team of Molinari, Ho, Lucca Martins and Alex Liang posted a time of 6:34.67. North Texas finished in third with a time of 6:36.91. The team consisted of Jason Head, Austin Whalen, William Karau and Jack LeVant.

Ozaukee Aquatics won the women’s relay. The team of Skylar Fore, Autumn Haebig, Mallory Fox and Katie Drabot won in a time of 7:16.19. Scottsdale Aquatic Club finished in second with a time of 7:20.37. The team was comprised of Shae Nicolaisen, Natalia Jaspeado, Jocelyn Wang and Ruck.

The bronze medal went to Austin Swim Club. The team of Kendall Shields, Maggie Jukes, Dakota Luther and Diana Dunn posted a time of 7:20.40.

Tomorrow’s preliminaries start at 9 a.m.
