Cal’s Speed, Depth Secure Pac-12 Championship

The final day of the Pac-12 Men’s Championship was a fast one and Cal continued its speed and depth to cruise to the conference championship.

The Golden Bears scored 971 points to win the Pac 12.

Stanford had plenty of depth, too, and finished second with 769. USC was third (549.33), followed by Arizona State (391), Arizona (387) and Utah (295.66).

 

DAY 4 FULL RESULTS

Order of events:

1650 Free

Cal’s Nick Norman stared the final night of the Pac-12 Men’s Championships by winning the 1650 Free. He won in 14:39.77 and went 1-2 with Sean Grieshop (14:43.35).

It was a huge event for Stanford, too, as the Cardinal took the remaining six spots in the final to score some major points.

Stanford’s Johann Calloni took third (14:45.80), followed by Grant Shoults (14:53.26), James Murphy (14:54.41), Matthew Hirschberger (14:58.12), True Sweetser (15:01.29) and Liam Egan (15:02.24).

One night after taking a disqualification, Stanford’s Abrahm DeVine rebounded to win the 200 backstroke in 1:40.11.

He held off USC’ Robert Glinta (1:40.57) as well as Cal’s Daniel Carr (1:40.72) and Bryce Mefford (1:41.06).

USC’s Santo Condorelli used a fast start to win the 100 free in 41.98, holding off Cal’s Justin Lynch (42.21).

Arizona’s Cameron Craig was third (42.34), followed by Utah’s Liam O’Haimhirgin, the top seed from the morning.

Cal’s Michael Jensen followed (42.67) ahead of USC’s Dylan Carter (42.79) and Cal’s Ryan Hoffer (43.12).

Cal’s Zheng Quah put his stamp on the meet with a Pac-12 championships record in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:40.24.

Cal’s depth was again dominant as Trenton Julian (1:41.69), Matthew Josa (1:43.20), Jack Xie (1:43.38) and Michael Thomas (1:44.05) went 1-3-5-6-8 in the event.

Arizona’s Justin Wright finished second (1:41.26).

USC cruised to the conference title in the 400 free relay to close the meet.

Santo Condorelli, Dylan Carter, Ralf Tribuntsov and Justin Nguyen won in 2:40.18.

    Why is there a picture of a water polo game in an outdoor pool when the article is about a swim meet in an indoor pool?
