Pac-12 Championships Day 2 Prelims: Ledecky, Baker, Weitzeil Take Top Seeds

The big names in the Pac-12 took their familiar top seeds on Day 2 of the Pac-12 Women’s Championship.

Olympians Katie Ledecky, Kathleen Baker and Abbey Weitzeil each took a top seed.

Ledecky, a Stanford sophomore, took the top seed in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:35.90.

Stanford freshman Lauren Pitzer was second in 4:39.69 and Arizona’s Kirsten Jacobsen took the third seed at 4:39.98.

Stanford’s Ella Eastin took the fourth seed at 4:40.30, followed by teammate Megan Byrnes (4:41.06), Cal’s Robin Neumann (4:41.18), Cal’s Chenoa Devine (4:42.30) and Stanford’s Erin Voss (4:42.84).

Baker, a Cal junior, took the top seed in the 200 IM, swimming the morning race in 1;54.16.

Stanford’s Katie Drabot took the second seed at 1:55.64, followed by Cal’s Sarah Darcel (1:55.98), Stanford’s Ally Howe (1:56.00), UCLA’s Emma Schanz (1:56.06), Stanford’s Brooke Forde (1:56.30), teammate Kim Williams (1:56.54) and Cal’s Keaton Blovad (1:56.86).

Weitzeil took the top seed in the 50 freestyle, clocking a 21.64 in the morning, holding off some impressive company.

Stanford’s Simone Manuel took the second seed at 21.67, followed by teammate Janet Hu (22.08).

USC’s Marta Ciesla and Cal’s Amy Bilquist tied at 22.09 to take the fourth seed. Cal’s Maddie Murphy was sixth (22.30), followed by Arizona’s Katrina Konopka (22.36) and Jamie Stone (22.40).
