Swimming World special correspondent Steven Munatones provides a pair of top-flight open water articles in the July issue. Munatones, a long-time friend of Swimming World, was on site at both the World Championships in Seville, Spain and the Open Water Test Event in Beijing, China as the Olympic 10K field came into fruition.

Meanwhile, Jeff Commings took a look back at the FINA World Masters Championships in Perth, Australia, while Emily Sampl checked in with Sippy Woodhead in the latest Still Kicking article.

Managing editor Jason Marsteller had a final look at American athletes in synchronized swimming, water polo and diving, while also detailing the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings powered by Take Your Marks.

Additionally, Judy Jacob as a piece on the California Community College Championships, while the Technique Tip focused on the shoulder shrug style of breaststroke as demonstrated by Kaitlin Sandeno.

In Swimming Technique, Michael J. Stott spoke with North Carolina's Rich DeSelm and looked at how Chip Peterson, Joe Kinderwater and Whitney Sprague train. Stott also chatted with some heavy hitters about race strategy in the 1650. Dr. Daniel Carl looks at the differences between fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers, while Justin Caron takes a look at the conditions that come into play to create a fast pool. Also, the United States Swim Schools Association presents The Heart of Exceptional Teachers.
