Fort Collins Area Swim Team’s Bayley Stewart has verbally committed to swim for the University of Notre Dame beginning in the 2018-2019 season. Stewart is primarily a backstroker who will be a huge addition to the Fighting Irish.

She told Swimming World

“I love the family aspect of Notre Dame. When I walked onto the campus I immediately knew that it was the school for me. I have always wanted to find a school that would allow me to reach my goals in both swimming and academics without having to sacrifice one or the other. I think Notre Dame is the perfect fit for me and I am so excited to be part of the Notre Dame family.”

Stewart is a member of the 15-18 National Age Group Record holding 200 medley relay. FAST set that mark of 1:38.84 in March. Stewart led off in a 25.49. She’s also a member of two FAST long course National Age Group record setting relays. In 2016 the team went a 4:08.39 in the 400 freestyle relay. That mark was the 15-18 and 15-16 national mark.

Some of her best times are (SCY/LCM):

  • 50 Back 25.49/ 29.94
  • 100 Back 53.37/ 1:02.54
  • 200 Back 1:54.44/ 2:14.84
  • 200 IM 2:03.01/ 2:24.25

At the 2017 Colorado 5A state championships, Stewart’s Fossil Ridge team opened the night in dominant fashion, destroying the 200 medley relay record. Stewart went on to win the 100 backstroke and touch second in the 200 IM. She was also a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay.

With over a year to go until she makes the move to South Bend, Stewart already looks set to make an impact for Notre Dame. At the 2017 ACC Championships she would have been a 100 backstroke B finalist and a 200 backstroke A finalist. Her times are incredibly similar to Alice Treuth‘s, who she’ll overlap with for one year. With the eventual graduation of Treuth, Stewart is a likely medley relay contender.
