NCAA Div. I Women: Texas Aggies Drop Arkansas, No. Texas, But Fall to #6 SMU

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Nov. 1. THE No. 23 Texas A&M women's swimming & diving team captured two of three dual meets held at the Texas A&M Student Rec Center Natatorium on Friday night.

The Aggies defeated Arkansas 192-104 and North Texas 190-97 but lost to No. 6 Southern Methodist 194-106.

Though the Aggies didn't win an event on the evening, second place finishes were in abundance. A&M finished second in 11 of 16 events.

Courtney Patterson, Millie Reynolds and Danielle Townsend were part of the second place 200 medley relay squad and each grabbed second in an individual event as well. Patterson was second in the 100 back (57.61), Reynolds in the 100 fly (57.36) and Townsend in the 100 free (52.16).

Ashley Roark was the only Aggie to grab second in a pair of events. The A&M sophomore claimed runner-up honors in the 200 back (2:02.73) and the 200 medley (2:06.91).

Freshmen Erin Briskie and Rosie Whiting earned runner-up honors in the 100 breast (1:06.96) and the one-meter springboard (249.20).

Junior Katy Lietzau and sophomores Tiffany Moore and Casey Mucha finished second in the 100 fly (2:03.66), 500 free (4:59.95) and 200 free (1:51.95), respectively.

"This is a positive step in the right direction for us," A&M head coach Steve Bultman said. "We expected the dual with Arkansas to be very, very close after falling to them last year. This can only help our confidence level right now."

A&M's record goes upward to 3-2 on the season. The Aggies will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 15, for a dual meet against Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. at the Student Rec Center Natatorium.
