Michael Phelps Number 1 In The World After 100 Butterfly Swim

Michael Phelps is back on top of the world in the 100-meter fly. Phelps blasted a 50.45 in tonight’s final at USA Nationals in San Antonio. The time puts him first in the world, ahead of butterfly heavyweights Chad le Clos and Laszlo Cseh. Phelps’s swim was an impeccable response to Le Clos and Cseh’s “trash talk” from the FINA World Championships in Kazan. Le Clos (50.56) and Cseh (50.87) took first and second at Worlds.

Phelps’s swim is only 0.63 seconds off of his world record time of 49.82, an incredible mark for Phelps on his quest to return to the Olympics in 2016. His splits were simply outstanding.

After the turn, Phelps began to separate himself from second-place finisher Jack Conger and the rest of the field. From there, he seemed to gain steam. Conger touched to a 51.33, while David Nolan wound up third in 52.15.

Giles Smith finished just outside the top three in 52.23. Matthew Josa, who was seeded third entering the night, posted a 52.28. Connor Black (52.61), Tripp Cooper (52.63), and Braxston Timm (53.38) rounded out the championship final.

Yeah because if Phelps was at the actual world champs he would’ve won, right? Bit more to it…

You know he would have. Because world champs to us nationals… would have amplified his training that 1% more. let alone the competition to push him another 10%

Too bad he can’t be a better role model

Being a great swimmer doesn’t mean he needs to be a role model, good or bad. That said he’s a good one in my book, he’s overcome mistakes (news flash we all make them) to once again become one of the world greatest. Can’t ask for much else to look up too.

Don’t judge on his past. Beyond your knowledge he very well might be an emerging dynamite role model now since the incident, which can serve as a life changer.

Thar DUI banned him from FINA but not from being best in both the 100 and 200 meter flys so far in 2015. Maybe USA Swimming should have learned way back with pot smoking Gary Hall Jr. that they do not own the personal lives of their athletes like the NFL, professional baseball or basketball do with Ray RIce-Adrian Peterson, Pete Rose, and all. Or has the amateau status of age group to college swimming gone pro now and they own their athletes!!
