GUARATINGUETA, Brazil, September 6. TONIGHT’s finale at the short course Jose Finkel Trophy meet should be a fun one as the men’s 100-meter freestyle finale is loaded with talent, while Felipe Silva will challenge his South American record.

The men’s 100-meter freestyle finale will be loaded as led by Joao De Lucca’s 47.33. Henrique De Souza placed second in 47.71 with Federico Grabich earning third in 47.78. Cesar Cielo (47.82), Nicholas Dos Santos (47.96), Guilherme Guido (48.14) and Nicolas Oliveira (48.19) also made the finale.

Felipe da Silva took a run at his South American record of 25.70 with a 25.88 in the men’s 50-meter breast this morning. That swim would have ranked him third in the world a year ago behind only Roland Schoeman (25.65) and Fabio Scozzoli (25.72). Silva should give his record a go this evening. Felipe Lima qualified second in 26.95.

Moniek Nijhuis stopped the clock in 30.60 in the women’s 50-meter breast, a bit off her fourth-ranked time of 29.79 from a year ago at the European Short Course Championships. Ana Carvalho took second in prelims with a 31.27 and will have to drop some time to challenge Tatiane Sakemi’s South American mark of 30.50 from 2009.

Femke Heemskerk blazed her way to a 53.35 in women’s 100-meter freestyle qualifying, while Larissa Oliveira touched second in 53.73.

Leonardo De Deus raced his way to a top seed in the men’s 200-meter back in 1:54.78. If he can have a considerable time drop in the finale, he might take a run at Omar Pinzon’s South American mark of 1:52.34 from 2010. Fabio Santi took second this morning in 1:55.20.

Natalia De Luccas topped qualifying in the women’s 200-meter back with a 2:12.30, while Andrea Berrino finished a distant second in 2:14.00.
