TOKYO – This weekend, reigning Swimming World World Swimmer of the Year Kosuke Hagino went on record that he plans on winning both the 200 and 400-meter IM events at the 2015 World Championships by a wide margin.

Hagino talked to the media following his participation in the short course Tokyo New Year Meet this weekend, his first swims in 2015.

“My goal this year is to win two gold medals both both the 200 and 400 IM,” Hagino said. “Winning at the World Championships just a year before the Olympic Games would bring me closer to gold medals at Rio.  So, I want to win by a wide margin.”

This weekend, Hagino posted a 1:44.00 in the 200-meter free, and a 1:54.01 in the 200-meter fly on day one.  He then clocked a 1:54.00 in the 200-meter IM and a 3:40.74 in the 400-meter free.

The Japanese Swimming Federation is already on record as guaranteeing a spot on the 2016 Olympic squad for any Japanese swimmer who wins a world title this summer.
