REUNION – The Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu ran her gold-medal tally to 10 after two days at the short course Indian Ocean Meet. She also set two more Hungarian records, but also suffered her first loss of the meet.

Hosszu, who already won five golds including a Hungarian record on day one, started off day two with a 57.82 to win the women’s 100-meter back.  That time is well off her world-record setting 55.03 from Worlds, but plenty good enough to win today. Compatriot Evelyn Verraszto took second in 1:00.49 with Cloe Hache placing third in 1:02.88 for France.

Win number two of the night went to Hosszu in the women’s 400-meter free with a 4:02.18.  That’s a few seconds back of her sixth-ranked season best of 4:00.33 from the Hungarian Championships, but still almost 10 seconds ahead of Coralie Codevelle’s 4:11.69 tonight.  Alizee Morel placed third in 4:14.22.

Hosszu lowered her own Hungarian record in the women’s 50-meter breast with a 30.66.  That’s her first time under 31 seconds, downing her previous mark of 31.12 set at the Tokyo stop of the 2013 FINA World Cup.  Charlotte Bonnet (31.35) and Chloe Cazier (32.47) finished second and third.

Hosszu’s fourth crown of the night came in the women’s 200-meter fly with a 2:05.40 for the win.  That’s well off her second-ranked 2:01.12 from Worlds, but more than five seconds ahead of second-place Marrie Wattel’s 2:10.68. Justine Bruno took third in 2:14.88.

Hosszu secured her fifth win of the night in the women’s 100-meter IM with a 58.87. She set the world record at Worlds with a 56.70 earlier this month. Charlotte Bonnet (1:00.58) and Evelyn Verraszto (1:01.72) finished second and third.

Anna Santamans proved to be the only person who could stop the Hosszu steamroller as Santamans touched out Hosszu, 24.41 to 24.43, in the women’s 50-meter free finale.  That’s still a second Hungarian record for Hosszu, lowering her own 24.58 from the Hong Kong stop of the FINA World Cup. Cloe Hache took third in 25.45.

Jeremy Stravius smoked the men’s 100-meter back finale with a 50.67 for the win. That moved him up to 12th in the world rankings.  Thomas Avetand took second in 53.52 with Oleg Garasymovytch placing third in 54.01.

Stravius doubled up with a 21.56 to win the men’s 50-meter free.  Roland Schoeman took second in 22.04 with Jean-Baptiste Febo placing third in 23.03.

Jeremy Desplanches won the men’s 400-meter free in 3:46.38.  Benoit Debast claimed second in 3:47.59 with Theo Fuchs taking third in 3:58.52.

South Africa’s Roland Schoeman raced his way to the title in the men’s 50-meter breast with a 26.85.  That’s a bit off his fourth-ranked season best of 25.86 from the Singapore stop of the FINA World Cup this year.  Eddie Moueddene (27.43) and Vincent Clement (28.48) placed second and third.

Theo Fuchs captured the men’s 200-meter fly title in 2:00.13 with Ambroise Petit taking second in 2:03.48.  William Moulon wound up third in 2:04.16.

USA’s Darian Townsend hit the wall in 53.23 to win the men’s 100-meter IM tonight. Eddie Moueddene tied Jeremy Desplanches for second with 54.41s.

Notably, after taking eighth in the 50 back yesterday, Hosszu’s coach-husband earned 10th overall in the men’s 100-meter back with a 1:00.93 in the B final.
