Kansas Rebounds, Splits With Miami and Rutgers

Less than 20 hours after their meet against Florida International and NC State, the Kansas Jayhawks were back in action on Saturday January 9 in Coral Gables, Florida against teams from Miami (Florida) and Rutgers. In the double-dual style meet, Kansas came out on top of Rutgers with a score of 176.5-123.5, but fell to Miami by a score of 178-20.

The Jayhawks started the meet in resounding fashion with a team of Yulduz Kuchkarova, Bryce Hinde, Pia Pavlic, and Haley Bishop edging out Miami’s team in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:50.08. Bishop later recorded the Jayhawks’ only individual win when she won the 50 free with a time of 23.98. She was also runner up in the 100 fly (55.55).

the overwhelming number of points scored by Kansas came in the form of second place finishes–six total. Hinde joined the party with a pair of second place finishes in the 100 breast (1:05.65) and the 200 breast (2:22.07). Sophomore Madison Straight took second by one one hundredth of a second in the 200 IM (2:07.16), freshman Libby Walker was runner-up in he 1000 free (10:26.64), and a team of Bishop, Haley Molden, Pavlic, and Kuchkarova finished off the meet by taking second in the 200 free relay (1:35.61).

Kansas will spend another five days in Key Largo, Florida for winter training camp and will compete next on January 23 in a quad dual meet against William Jewel, Tabor College, and Morningside College.
