Japan International Meet on Tap for Tuesday

CHIBA, Japan, August 19. THE final major meet of the summer will begin Tuesday in the Pacific Rim when the Japan International Swim Meet gets under way. The competition is scheduled to run through Friday and a number of international stars are expected to be in attendance, along with a solid American squad.

Australia is sending a loaded roster to the event, one that includes world-record holder Grant Hackett. The two-time defending world champion in the 1500 freestyle is gearing up for the Beijing Olympics, where he'll try to make it a trifecta in the metric mile. Hackett is expected to be joined by Libby Lenton, the freestyle ace who won the 50 and 100 freestyles and the 100 butterfly at the World Champs.

For the United States, it will be represented by a mixture of young and veteran standouts. While the female squad will turn to the likes of Tara Kirk and Rebecca Soni, the men's team should be highlighted by Randall Bal and Nick Brunelli. Also in attendance will be Rachel Komisarz and David Cromwell. The U.S. squad includes:
