VALPARAISO, Indiana, April 28. VALPARAISO University Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera has announced that Howard Hunte has been named as the next Crusaders head swimming and diving coach.

"We are pleased to have someone with Howard's passion for swimming and enthusiasm for the overall success of student-athletes joining the Valpo staff," said LaBarbara.

Hunte began coaching with the Fairmont Area Swim Team in West Virginia since 2003 when he began as an assistant coach for ages 13-17. He was named the club's head coach for the 2006-2007 season.

In addition, he was an assistant swim coach for the West Virginia Southern Zone Team in 2005 and 2006 that was held at the University of Houston and Georgia Tech respectively.

Hunte presently is doing an internship at West Virginia University in strength and conditioning while completing his Masters of Science in athletic coaching education.

"I am very happy and excited to begin working at Valparaiso," Hunte said. "I feel that I am ready for the job."

He earned his Bachelor of Science in physical education from Fairmont State University in 2006 where he was a member of the school's swim team, serving as a team captain for three seasons.

Hunte will begin work in July.
