Hannah Cox of Upper Valley was one of the top qualifiers of the day at the 2015 USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals East being held in Atlanta, Ga.

Women’s 500 free

Upper Valley’s Hannah Cox led the way in the women’s 500-yard free with a time of 4:42.70.  That swim is well off the meet record of 4:38.89 set by Amber McDermott back in 2008, but Cox could make a run tonight.  Chattahoochee Gold’s Lauren Case qualified second in 4:44.03 with Marlins of Raleigh’s Madison Homovich turning in a third-seeded 4:44.55.

Baylor’s Trey Freeman, who unleashed a scorching 1:36.95 200-yard free leadoff last night to challenge the 15-16 age group record, paced prelims of the middle distance event in 4:20.97.  He has some time to drop to challenge the meet record of 4:16.59 set by Sean Grieshop last year.  Grieshop will be putting up his own time out West as well.

Tennessee’s Walker Higgins (4:24.28) and NOVA’s Ted Schubert (4:24.98) qualified second and third.
