MIAMI, Florida, August 27. The two-time Olympian, eight-time Olympic medalist (4 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze), American record-holder and hero to millions of swimmers and diabetes patients coordinated the launch of GaryHallJr.com with the introduction of Gary’s "Damn the Torpedoes" email newsletter. Approximately every two weeks (sometimes even more often) Gary will offer training tips,
philosophy, and thoughts as he prepares for the upcoming Olympics in Athens 2004.
In the introductory newsletter, Hall covers many topics including his favorite meals, recent books he’s read, and even challenges Pan American 50 meter freestyle champion, Fernando Sherer to a rematch. In the newsletter among other topics, Gary reflects, “I swam at the Pan Ams and got third, three one-hundreds of a second behind Fernando Sherer (22.40 to 22.43).
"It was a close race and a great swim for Fernando, a good friend of mine. But I declare, REMATCH!
"And I want it in Brazil, in front of his own people. I want a rematch.”
Without any promotion, the web site has already received traffic from throughout the United States and all over the globe from countries including Australia, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, The United Kingdom, among others.
Gary said, “This is my very first newsletter. I will talk some about the swimming things that are happening but I also want the freedom to talk about anything that comes to mind. Feel free to write me, ask me
questions, berate me, whatever.
"This is open forum. I will address as many messages as possible. If there is something that catches my eye, or gets me started on a tangent…”
Gary is currently training to make his third United States Olympic Swim team in Athens 2004. An appearance in Athens would make Gary Jr. and his father, Gary Hall Sr. the only father/son duo in the history of the Olympics to each have three Olympic Games under his respective belt.
