Fran Crippen Sets National Prep School Mark in 500 Free

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 25. FRAN Crippen, of Germantown from Germantown Academy broke his own national prep record in the 500 free Saturday night.

Competing at the the Eastern Interscholastic Championships at La Salle University in Philadelphia, he clocked 4:19.54.

Crippen, the younger brother of 2000 Olympian Maddy Crippen, won his first-ever USA Swimming title last summer when he took the 800 meter freestyle, and he was a member of last year's USA Goodwill Games team.

Fran also won the 200 I.M. with a 1:50.13 on Friday night and time-trialed a 3:55.52 for the 400 I.M. He wasn't shaved or tapered for the meet. Instead, he's focusing on spring nationals.
