Florida Gulf Coast vs. North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, January 20. THE FGCU swimming & diving team picked up its 20th-straight win in CCSA meets by defeating North Florida, 132-102, on Friday in a dual meet at the UNF Aquatics Center.

The Eagles improve to 9-2 with a perfect 3-0 record in conference.

"The girls did a good job today of traveling six hours and then racing a good UNF team," said head coach Neal Studd. "I am looking forward to Georgia Southern tomorrow and hopefully keeping our conference record in tack. It has now been four years without a loss in conference and it is a great testament to our ladies not suffering a loss with the conference improving every year."

FGCU began the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.68. The team of freshman Maggie Holling (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I Leonard HS), junior Danielle Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/The Bolles School), senior Danielle Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee HS/St. Bonaventure) and junior Shannon Blizzard (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) finished ahead of the pack.

In the 1000-yard freestyle, junior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester, Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams/Florida) earned first-place honors with a time of 10:31.83, followed by classmate Jamie Akenberger (Bowling Green, Ohio/BGSU) in second at 10:37.49.

Senior Victoria Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College) picked up a victory in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.74, followed by sophomore Jessie Porter (Chorleywood, Hertforshire, United Kingdom/Royal Masonic) touching in second at 1:55.05. Senior Leah Daniel (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Osceola) gave FGCU the clean sweep with a third-place finish at 1:57.11.
In the 50 free, sophomore Christina Tanninen (Burlington, Ontario/Shorecrest Prep) took home first-place with a time of 25.21 and senior Teri Lytle (Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic) came in second at 25.66.

Freshmen Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) finished second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:11.90, while classmate Blaine Small (Glenrothes, Fife, United Kingdom/Kelly College) touched in third at 2:13.11.

In the 1-meter diving competition, sophomore Alex Valder (Tampa, Fla./Sickles HS) placed third with a score of 232.87, while freshman Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola HS) came in fourth at 229.27.

Freshman Kathryn Brewer (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside HS) finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 59.19, while senior Alessandra Cianci (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) came in second at 59.28.

In the 100 back, Cadge earned her second individual win of the day with a time of 1:00.36, followed by freshman Karen Vilorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Elvel School) in third-place at 1:01.95.

The Green and Blue would sweep the 500-yard freestyle as Porter placed first with a time of 5:10.13, while freshman Natalie Rochette (Naples, Fla./The Bolles School) touched in second at 5:16.03 and junior Kristen Potter (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) came in third with a time of 5:16.96.

In the final diving event of the day, Collins finished third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 248.25 and junior Meagan Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee HS/FAU) came in fourth at 243.53. In the final event of the meet, the freshmen team of Charlie Molenda (Middletown, R.I./Middletown), Cassie Niles (Helotes, Texas/Sandra Day O'Connor HS), Devon Robbins (London, United Kingdom/The Grey Coat Hospital) and Svensson swam the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.48.

The Eagles return to the pool on Saturday against CCSA foe Georgia Southern at 3 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga.
