Elli Thornbrue Wins 500 Free at Federal Way Sectionals

FEDERAL WAY–Elli Thornbrue claimed the gold in the 500 free Saturday during day four of the Federal Way Speedo Sectionals.

Emma Schanz kicked off day four with a win in the 100 back. Schnoz finished with a 52.84 to claim the gold. Jillian Visscher of Oregon City Swim took second with a 54.10, while Zoe Bartel of Fort Collins Area was third with 54.73.

Thomas Anderson of King Aquatic Club cruised to first and a new Western Sectionals record in the 100 back. His time of 47.24 replaces Patrick Mulcare’s 2014 time of 47.69. Charger Aquatics’ Anthony Kim finished second with a 48.38.

Dropping four seconds from her time in prelims, Hillsboro Heat’s Elli Thornbrue claimed first with a 4:51.87. Lucia Davis of Sweet Home Swim finished close behind with a 4:52.33 while Current Swimming’s Mackenzie Halligan was third with a 4:54.87.

Cascade Swim Club’s Abraham Devine finished first in the 500 free with a 4:26.29, a four second drop from his prelims time. Jeffco Hurricane teammates Keegan Foulke (4:27.81) and Michael Zarian (4:29.24) finished second and third respectively.

The women’s 100 breaststroke was a close race with the top three finishers touching within .08 of each other. Bellevue Club’s Kimberly Williams won with a 1:01.31. Bartel (1:01.36) and Schanz (1:01.39) finished close behind.

Current Swimming’s Thomas Brewer took first in the 100 breaststroke with a 54.77. He was followed to the wall by Bellevue Club’s Samuel Petrini (55.46) and Foothills Swim Team’s Daniel Graber (55.54).

Bailey Nero of Fort Collins Area swept the competition in the 100 fly with a 52.81 putting her just shy of the Western Sectional record of 52.52 set in 2009 by Ariana Kukors. Visscher finished second with a 54.53, while Collen Gillilan was third with a 54.77.

Dropping one second from his prelims time, Mathias Oh claimed his third individual win of the meet with a 47.92 in the 100 fly. John Holler of Lobo Aquatic Club claimed second with a 48.15, while Maxwell Holter of Fort Collins Area touched with a 48.25 for third.

It was a close race between the 400 free relay teams of Fort Collins Area and Bellevue Club. The relay team of Bartel (50.85), Elise Forzley (51.72), Andi Johnston (52.00) and Nero (50.16) touched with a 3:24.73 to claim the win for Fort Collins Area. Bellevue’s Marley Cross (50.96), Williams (50.63), Christina Domanowski (51.74) and Elisa Fang (51.61) finished close behind with a time of 3:24.94.

The 400 free relay team of Oh (45.06), Anderson (44.85), Justice Kramer (46.86) and Zachary Wagner (44.85) from King Aquatic Club swept the competition finishing with a time of 3:01.62. Central Area finished second with a 3:05.02, while Fort Collins Area was third with a 3:05.38.

King Aquatic Club leads the team standings at the end of day four with 927 points. Fort Collins Area (704) and Bellevue Club (633) are currently second and third.
