Coach George Haines, Stricken by Stroke, To Celebrate 80th Birthday; Daughter Asks for Cards, Photos

SACRAMENTO, Calif., February 13. RENOWNED coach George Haines, stricken by a debilitating stroke in 2002, turns 80 on March 9, and his daughter, Kerry Haines Derr, has asked that Coach Haines' friends, fellow coaches and former swimmers — as well as members of the greater worldwide ommunity — "take a few moments to send him a card, note or email.

"If you could include a recent photo of you and yours or a photo of 'remember when.' it would really make his day."

Kerry reports that her "Dad is in a skilled nursing facility, wheelchair bound and verbally silent. But on those good days he still can communicate with "the look, the wink, a finger shake and a kiss."

Mrs. Haines visits with her husband every day and has moved into a smaller house close to him. You may send them mail at her new address:

1619 Woodhill Dr.
