Big 12 Championships, Day 4 Prelims: Emma Sticklen Starts Texas Top Seed Parade

Two (2!) events at the Big 12 Championships Thursday night went to swimmers not from the University of Texas. Normal service was restored on Friday.

Five of the six events have a Longhorn having earned the middle lane in finals. If the 18 top-three finishers in events Friday, 13 hail from Texas. Only BYU’s Brad Prolo broke the blockade, with a chance to win the 200 butterfly and add to teammate Jordan Tiffany’s 100 fly win Thursday night.

All the action from the Aquatics Center at Mylan Park:

Women’s 200 butterfly

Emma Sticklen is on top of a 1-2-3 Texas result, though the two behind the 100 fly champ have changed.

Sticklen set the pace in prelims at 1:54.27, 1.5 seconds ahead of teammate Kelly Pash. Angie Coe was second, followed by four Houston swimmers led by Alondra Lopez.

Sticklen owes the conference record in the event. The meet record belongs to Olivia Bray, who is not swimming the 200 fly this year, from 2021.
