800-Freestyle Relay Kicks Off Texas Invite

The University of Texas Hall of Fame Invitational got off to a fast start on Wednesday night, the first session of the four day meet.

The men’s and women’s 800-yard freestyle relays were Wednesday’s only events.

The night started with the women’s relay. In the race, four teams finished under the NCAA ‘A’ time standard. Arizona won the event, posting a time of 7:01.50. Texas was second, Southern California was third and Texas’ B relay team finished in fourth.

On the men’s side, no teams finished under the NCAA ‘A’ time standard. Arizona finished first in the event with a time of 6:22.76. Wisconsin was second and Texas’ B team was third. The Longhorns’ A relay team was disqualified from the race.

In the women’s 500-yard freestyle, Southern California’s Chelsea Chenault is seeded first. In the men’s event, Southern California’s Reed Malone holds the top pre-meet time.

In the women’s 200-yard individual medley, Texas’ Madisyn Cox has the top seed time. Brigham Young’s Jake Taylor is seeded first in the men’s event.

Southern California’s Anika Apostalon is ranked first going into the 50-yard freestyle. Harvard’s Paul O’Hara holds the fastest pre-meet time in the men’s 50-yard event.

Tomorrow’s preliminaries start at 9 a.m.
