Women’s 200 IM

Cardinal’s Tanja Kylliainen powered her way to the top time in the morning with a 2:14.20.

The Louisville swimmers were super excited following Kylliainen’s swim as she cleared the Olympic qualifying cut in the process.

Stanford’s Maya DiRado turned in a second-place time of 2:14.57, and could challenge for the title tonight as she’s already posted a fourth-ranked season best of 2:08.99 from Worlds.  If she can duplicate even a bit of that speed, Ariana Kukors’ 2008 pool record of 2:11.53 is in trouble.

Saint Petersburg’s Melanie Margalis finished third in 2:14.74 with California’s Caitlin Leverenz claiming the fourth seed in 2:15.26.

SwimMAC’s Kirsty Coventry (2:15.45), NBAC’s Becca Mann (2:15.65), Aggie’s Sarah Henry (2:15.80) and Minnesota’s Brooke Zeiger (2:15.89) also made the A final.

Women’s 100 free

Simone Manuel put the pool record on notice in the women’s 100-meter free with a top time of 54.45.

Manuel is likely to take down Missy Franklin’s 2011 pool record of 54.27, and if Manuel doesn’t get it then Abbey Weitzeil of Canyons is in striking distance as well with a second-seded 54.58.

In an exciting heat, Franklin and NCAP’s Katie Ledecky tied with matching 55.22s, while SwimAtlanta’s Amanda Weir qualified fifth in 55.26.

Bulldog’s Shannon Vreeland (55.29), NBAC’s Allison Schmitt (55.46) and California’s Camille Cheng (55.54) rounded out the top eight.
