Pac-12 Names Isabelle Stadden 2024 Women’s Swimmer of the Year

The 2024 and final Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year Award goes to California’s Isabelle Stadden, the conference announced on Thursday.

Minna Abraham of USC was named the freshman of the year, while her coach, Lea Maurer, took home her second Coach of the Year award.

Nike Agunbiade of USC is the Diver of the Year. Richard Marschner of Utah is the coach of the year after mentoring top freshman diver Emilia Nilsson-Graip.

Stadden finished at the runner-up at NCAAs in the 100 backstroke and finished fourth in the 200 back. She led the Golden Bears 200 medley relay to finish fourth and the 400 medley relay to eighth. She helped Cal win the women’s title at Pac-12s, scoring 146.5 points. She won the 100 back and completed a three-peat in the 200 back, just the second woman to do that in the Pac-12. Stadden also led victory in the 200 medley relay and runner-up results in the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay.

Abraham scored the most points of any swimmer in the league with 197 on the season and was one of just 22 Pac-12 scorers at NCAAs. At Pac-12s, Abraham won both the 100 free and 200 free. She was also fifth in the 200 individual medley. The Hungarian international anchored the Trojans’ 200 free, 400 free and 400 medley relays to victory. The former was the first time USC had won that race at Pac-12s. She finished third in the 200 free at NCAAs.

Maurer is the coach of the year for the second time, the other time coming in 2010 for Stanford. She led USC to a 9-0 dual meet record, which included upsets of both California and Stanford. It’s the first time since 1996 that the Trojans have beaten both in-state rivals in the same season. USC finished second at Pac-12s by winning nine events, then took eighth at NCAAs, their best program finish since 2016.

Agunbiade was the freshman of the year in 2020 and is the top diver overall as a grad student this year. She repeated as platform diving champion in 2024, adding a runner-up result on one-meter. The only podium finisher for the Pac-12 at NCAAs, she finished third in 1-meter.

Nilsson-Garip became the first Utah diver to win a Pac-12 title when she scored 32.65 points on 1-meter. The native of Sweden also took home the 3-meter event, downing a 10-year-old school record. She won the consolation final of the 1-meter at NCAAs.

Marschner helped the Utes score 212 points at Pac-12s, with at least two divers in each of the three finals. They had two All-Americans, in Nillson-Garip and Holly Waxman.
