Kylie Stewart Claims Second Backstroke Title, Lucas Kaliszak Wins for Men

 ORLANDO, Florida, March 21. THE 100 backstroke kicked off the fourth night of the NCSA Junior National Championships.

Women’s 100 Backstroke:

200 backstroke champion Kylie Stewart (Dynamo) came from behind to sweep the 100 backstroke title from beneath Elizabeth Nelson’s feet. Although Nelson was first at the 50 at 25.38, two one hundredths ahead of Stewart, Stewart snuck her hand on the wall first for a 51.96 winning time. Stewart was the only finalist under the 52 second mark. Nelson took second in a 52.03. The duo held of Nations Capital’s Janet Hu who was looking to add the 100 backstroke to her collection of individual titles and new 200 butterfly NAG. Hu finished third with a 52.20.

Men’s 100 Backstroke:

Baylor’s Lucas Kaliszak made it very clear early on that he was going to come away with the men’s 100 backstroke title. Relying heavily on his strong underwaters, he turned to the feet at a 22.32 for the first 50 and maintained his lead to the finish. Nations Capital’s Andrew Seliskar, swimming his first individual finals event of the meet was the closest contender from lane 5. Kaliszak touched first with a 46.47 to Seliskar’s 46.89. Baylor’s Robert McHugh took third with a 47.78. Michael Andrew was also in the hunt, touching fourth with a 47.83, getting a best time and setting a new 13-14 National Age Group record.
