Peter Vanderkaay Named Representative to USOC Athlete Advisory Council

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, September 21. THIS morning, USA Swimming released A “President's Message” from President Bruce Stratton. The message presents to the public information about issues discussed and elections held at the 2012 US Aquatic Sports Convention last week in Greensboro, NC.

Much negative light has been shed on USA Swimming this past week with new sexual misconduct allegations arising. However, Stratton presented a positive and optimistic outlook for the future of USA Swimming.

One of the decisions announced in the message was the election of new board member Peter Vanderkaay as the representative to the USOC Athlete Advisory Council. Vanderkaay was a captain for Team USA at the London 2012 Olympics, and won a bronze medal in the 400 freestyle. He also competed in the 2004 and 2008 summer Olympics, winning several relay gold medals and an individual bronze medal in 200 freestyle in Beijing.

“I'm very excited to take this position on behalf of my fellow athletes,” Vanderkaay tells Swimming World Magazine. “I am optimistic that I can make changes that will support the athletes going forward.”

Margaret Hoelzer was named as the alternate representative.
