|AUSTIN, Texas, August 4. THREE swimmers, Madeline Locus, Dax Hill and Leah Stevens, won their third titles of the meet tonight as the American Long Course Championships came to a close on the campus of the University of Texas.
Kelsey Leneave of The Woodlands Swim Team earned her first win of the meet in the women's 200m IM, narrowly defeating Lakeside's Ellie Grimes, 2:18.84 to 2:19.06. Leah Stevens, also out of Lakeside, placed third in 2:19.72. In the men's race, Lakeside's Michael Scheid won comfortably in 2:07.62. North Coast Aquatics' Sean Gartland touched two seconds later in 2:09.69, right in front of Aggie Swim Club's Konstantin Shmyga (2:09.90).
Nitro's Quinn Carrozza ascended to the top of the podium in the women's 200m back in dominating fashion. She cut more than five seconds off her morning time to win in 2:12.71, six tenths ahead of Aggie Swim Club's Tess Simpson (2:13.35). Skylar Smith of First Colony Swim Team finished a distant second in 2:17.57. Nikita Denisyako got some redemption for the Aggies, winning the men's 200m back in 2:02.63. Lakeside picked up second with Robert Leasure posting a 2:04.38. Thomas Nguyen of SwimAtlanta rounded out the top three in 2:04.55.
Sprint queen Madeline Locus of Athens Bulldog collected her third sprint title of the meet, dominating the 100m free in 56.78. Metroplex Aquatics' Sammie Hashbarg touched second in 57.69, followed by Georgia Coastal's Patricia Forrester in 57.75. Meanwhile, Longhorn's Dax Hill grabbed the freestyle triple, adding the 100m free title to his previous two in the 50m and 200m with a 50.05. The Longhorns swept the top three spots with Ben Anderson (51.06) and Bobby Button (52.18) in second and third.
Lakeside's Leah Stevens wrapped up her meet with a third title as well, stopping the clock in 8:37.91 to claim the women's 800m free. Aggie Swim Club's Maureen McLaine took second in 8:40.80, while SwimAtlanta's Rachel Muller came in third (8:51.71). Metroplex Aquatics' Sam Lewis dominated the men's 1500m free, winning by 14 seconds in 15:50.37 over Longhorn's Reid Walker (16:04.22). Will Freeman of Birmingham claimed third place honors with a time of 16:07.66.
