Carson Foster Breaks 30 Seconds in 50-Meter Fly; Lowers Own U.S. National Age Group Record

OXFORD, Ohio, July 21. CARSON Foster, 10, of the Cincinnati Marlins became the youngest male ever to break 30 seconds in the 50-meter fly with a sterling outing this evening at the Ohio Long Course Junior Olympics in Oxford, Ohio.

Foster raced to a time of 29.91 in the boys 10-and-under 50-meter fly, lowering his U.S. National Age Group record of 30.18 set during prelims this morning. That time bettered a 30.26 he set earlier this month at a Cincy Marlin Time Trial, which eclipsed the previous mark of 30.55 posted by Mujahid El-Amin in 1996.

According to the USA Swimming SWIMS database, a 10-year-old Matt McLean is listed as having posted a 29.19 in 2000, while a total of 20 11-and-unders are listed under 30 seconds in the database. However, McLean's time has never been listed as a National Age Group record, and now Foster is the only swimmer under 11 years old in the database to break 30 seconds.

Foster also won the 50-meter free (29.09), 200-meter free (2:21.16), 50-meter back (33.30) and 200-meter IM (2:36.78) earlier in the meet.
