U.S. Olympic Trials: Depth Shows in Number of Swimmers Under FINA A Cut -- July 2, 2012

OMAHA, Nebraska, July 2. THE United States is the only country in the world that never has a problem filling its Olympic roster with two swimmers per event surpassing the FINA A standard.

It's just another example of the depth of swimming in the United States, which has fielded full teams for the Games since at least 1956. What's equally impressive is that the United States is able to take two alternates for the 400 free relay and 800 free relay.


Below, a list of the number of swimmers in each individual event that tied or surpassed the FINA A cut at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Only the top two in each event, however, are able to go to London. The time in parentheses is the A standard:
