OMAHA, Nebraska, June 28. CAMMILE Adams, another Texas A&M female swimmer who has been strong at these Trials, similar to 100 breast upset artist Breeja Larson, snatched the top seed in the women's 200 fly finale at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Adams ripped off a 2:08.07 during the first semifinal heat, and has way more in the tank after already blasting a sixth-ranked 2:06.76 earlier in the year. She could give Steve Bultman two swimmers on the U.S. Olympic squad after teammate Larson pulled off the stunner against Rebecca Soni in the 100 breast earlier in the week. Adams previously took 19th in the event in 2008, and placed second in the 200-yard fly at NCAAs this year. Her teammate Caroline McElhany also made finals with a seventh-place 2:10.78.
Kathleen Hersey, who made the team in 2008 with a second-place time of 2:07.33 behind Elaine Breeden (2:06.75), qualified second in 2:08.61 and is looking for her second Olympic bid. Breeden missed out on semis with a 17th-place finish in prelims. Meanwhile, Teresa Crippen, who finished 10th in the event in 2008, qualified third in 2:09.59. 2008 third-place finisher Kim Vandenberg wound up fourth in 2:09.79 after leading at the 150-meter mark before fading fast in the final stretch in semifinal two.
Kelsey Floyd (2:09.82), Tanya Krisman (2:09.86) and Shannon Draves (2:11.00) rounded out the finale, while 14-year-old Becca Mann of Clearwater took 10th in 2:11.48, having already made finals in the 400 free and 400 IM earlier this meet.
