Performance of the Week: Oct. 2, 2012

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 2. THE college swimming season got off to a big start last weekend with a lot of meets around the country featuring some swimmers we'll see in championship finals at next spring's NCAA championships.

One of those swimmers is Mark Weber, a senior at Florida State University, who put up a very fast time in his first race of the season. At the All-Florida Invite last weekend, Weber swam a 20.03 in the 50-yard freestyle in prelims, winning the event in finals with a 20.18. Weber's lifetime best is 19.62 from the ACC championships earlier this year.

Weber will be a key leg for Florida State's 200 freestyle relay, which made the finals last spring at the NCAAs and could do so again next year. Congratulations, Mark, you've won our Performance of the Week.
