Four-Star Swimming Recruit Maggie Burton Remaining in California

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 2. ORANGE County Waves' Maggie Burton, who also preps at University High in Irvine, Calif., made her college swimming decision over the weekend. The Swimming World four-star prospect is remaining in California and in the Pacific-12 Conference.

While some of the juggernauts such as California, Stanford and USC typically get the most headlines during recruiting, UCLA's Cyndi Gallagher is putting together a nice Class of 2013 after earning Burton's collegiate pledge.

Burton is a strong breaststroker who will give UCLA a potential scoring threat in those events. Burton's top time in the 100-yard breaststroke of 1:01.69 is already nearing NCAA Championships qualifying levels, while she also has a strong long course meter time in the 200 breast with a 2:37.13.

“UCLA has the richest tradition in athletics and I really liked what Coach Gallagher had to say about the direction of the program,” Burton told Swimming World. “This choice also allows me to compete against the best in the nation in the Pac 12 conference. The team, coaching staff and the amazing campus along with the degree that I will earn sold me on UCLA. I am very excited about finishing my senior year, and looking forward to joining my new Bruin family in Westwood!”

Burton joins five-star Madison White as future Bruins, as White made her decision back in April. That gives UCLA two of the top 10 swimmers in the state of California with plenty of time to score some more pledges.
