NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships: Dax Hill Captures Texas’ 100th NCAA Title in Program History With Comeback Win in 200 Free

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 23. DAX Hill of Texas provided the Longhorns with their 100th NCAA title in program history with a touchout triumph over USC's Dimitri Colupaev in the men's 200 free at the NCAA Division I Men's Championships.

Hill clocked a 1:32.51 for the win, bettering his 13th all-time ranked lifetime best of 1:32.64. He still stands behind Jean Basson's 1:32.48 for 12th. Hill earned Texas' fifth title in the event's history, joining Doug Gjertsen (1988, 90), Josh Davis (1993) and Dave Walters (2008) as 200 free Longhorn winners. The win made Texas only the fifth program to ever move into triple digits in terms of NCAA titles. The top four are Michigan (160), Stanford (142), Ohio State (118) and Southern California (112).

Colupaev shot out at NCAA pace at the 100, but settled for second in 1:32.91, while Louisville's Joao De Lucca took third in 1:33.49. Notre Dame's Frank Dyer (1:34.00), Texas' Clay Youngquist (1:34.06), Michigan's Michael Wynalda (1:34.66), Virginia's David Karasek (1:35.10) and Stanford's Robert Andrews (1:36.25) rounded out the championship heat.

USC's Cristian Quintero claimed the B final in 1:34.27, while California's Will Hamilton posted a second-place 1:34.44. Kentucky's Tyler Reed (1:34.96), California's Tyler Messerschmidt (1:35.04), Texas' Kyle McNeilis (1:35.16), Auburn's Zane Grothe (1:35.56), Virginia's Peter Geissinger (1:35.97) and Auburn's James Disney-May (1:36.05) earned the rest of the consolation points.

Texas cut the gap with California to 255.5 to 241.5, while Arizona stood third with 199 points. Stanford (198) and Michigan (164) owned fourth and fifth.
