Lindenwood vs. Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri, November 4. THE Missouri State men's and women's swimming & diving teams improved to 3-0 on the season after defeating Lindenwood University, in a non-conference dual meet Friday afternoon at the Hammons Student Center pool.
On the women's side, the Bears swept the meet collecting nine individual first-place finishes and two relay victories. Missouri State outscored the visiting Lions, 128-80. The men also won nearly every event, only surrendering the 200-yard butterfly and 200 backstroke to the Lions. The Bears defeated Lindenwood by 50 points, winning 138-88.

Missouri State opened the meet with a winning quartet of Janke Engelbrecht, Alyssa Powers, Merideth Swain and Hannah Molden in the 400 medley relay (4:03.96). The women continued their winning ways into the first break asDawn Richerson, Shannon Myer and Melissa Oishi scored victories for the Bears. Richerson won the 1,650 freestyle (18:03.66), Ahlin claimed the 200 free (1:57.90), Myer edged out two fellow Bears in the 50 free (25.26) and Oishi won the 400 individual medley.

Ahlin tacked on another victory in the 100 free to finish the meet as the only Bear to win two individual events. Joining the other MSU swimmers with first-place finishes wereAli Stauffer, Megan Holthoff, Dimitra Drakopoulou and Suzanne Van Rensburg.

The Missouri State men continue to show their depth in both the individual events and relays, as seven different Bears claimed victories. Four of those wins came from the freshman class includingCaleb Schuermann's swim in 1650 freestyle (16:26.48), a first-place finish from reigning MAC Swimmer of the Week,Vitalii Baryshok, in the 200 free (1:40.29), Isaac McKnight's victory in the 50 freestyle (21.75) and a win from Matthew Wilson in the 500 freestyle (4:43.82).

Other event winners for the men included Daan Jansen in the 400 individual medley, Jacob Sims in the 100 freestyle and Colin Hill in the 200 breaststroke.

The Bears return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Truman State for another non-conference dual meet.
