Louisville vs. Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, November 4. THE University of Louisville men's and women's swimming team swept BIG EAST rival University of Pittsburgh with the men prevailing 185-115 and the women winning 193-102 Friday evening in Pittsburgh.

"I am really proud of the effort," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "Even when the meet was out of contention, we kept fighting and racing hard until the end. The men's team really stepped up. I thought Kameron Chastain's leg in the 200-Medley Relay and his wins in the 100- and 200-breast were impressive. "

Other multiple winners included Victoria Mitchell (200-back and the 1000-free), Tanja Killiainen (200-IM and 200-fly) with diver Hannah Gadd winning both boards. For the men, Alex Burtch took the 200-free, the 100-free, and the 200-IM as well as anchoring the 200-free relay. Riley Martin won the 1000-free and the 500-free.

Hannah Gadd won the 1-meter diving with a score of 279.38 followed by teammate Lindsey Stephens, who posted a 256.65. Gadd won the 3-meter board as well with a score of 303.68. Freshman Emily Stalmack was second with a mark of 287.25. Cardinal Nikolas Sachs was second for the men on the 3-meter board being edged by just seven points with a score of 300.60. Sachs prevailed in the 1-meter board with a score of 300.75.

The Cardinal swimmers started the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay when the combination of Krissie Brandenburg (25.82), Fanny Lilliestrom (29.19), Tanja Killiainen (25.05) and Lacey Bobo (23.20) up a 1:43.30. The Louisville men's A-Relay took top honors as well with a time of 1:31.79.

U of L freshman Victoria Mitchell won the grueling 1000-free with a time of 10:04.81 just two seconds ahead of teammate and fellow frosh Abby Chin (1:06.35). For the U of L men, Riley Martin touched first in 9:31.63.
In the 200-free, Eszter Povazsay boarded a time of 1:51.37 for top honors followed by Breann McDowell's second place time of 1:52.11. Alex Burtch was the winner for U of L in the men's event with a time of 1:40.98 a full two seconds ahead of the field.

Krissie Brandenburg won the 100-back with a time of 56.68 just edging teammate Raine Thompson's 56.97. Juan Lopez was the top Cardinal swimmer in the men's event with a second in 51.95.

Lindsay Rogers won the 100-breast for the Cardinals with a time of 1:04.57. For the men, Kameron Chastain boarded a blazing 54.93, three seconds ahead of teammate Michael Haefner, who touched second.

Freshman Tanja Killiainen took first in the 200-fly with a time of 2:00.44. Abby Chin was second for the Cards, going 2:03.04. Riley Martin was the top men's finisher in the 200-fly with a second, boarding a 1:51.31.

Aileen Cole won the 50-free in 23.38 just ahead of teammate Lacey Bobo who touched second in 24.11. Freshman Caryle Blondell won the men's 50-free with a time of 20.94. Matt Schlytter was second in 21.22.

Cole repeated top honors with a win in the 100-free, turning in a mark of 51.46. Burtch had his second win with a time of 46.12, holding off a pair of closing Pitt swimmers for the win.

Victoria Mitchell won the 200-back for the Cards with a time of 2:00.91. Eszter Povazsay was second at 2:03.44. Juan Lopez got his win in the men's event with a time of 1:49.

Fanny Lilliestrom notched a first in the 200-breast with a time of 2:17.88 with Gisselle Kohoyda turning in a time of 2:05.56. Kameron Chastain made it a sweep by winning the men's 200-breast for his second win in 2:03.76. Kenny Crapse was second in 2:05.56.

Abby Chin was the top Cardinal finisher with a second place in the 500-free with a time of 5:00.50. Riley Martin got his second win with a first place in 500-free with a time of 4:37.04, holding off teammate Charlie Bolgan, who went 4:37.38.

In the women's 100-fly, Raine Thompson hit the wall first with a time of 56.81 followed by Jackie Sherrard, who went 56.97. Tim Collins finished second with a time of 50.26.

Tanja Killiainen turned in the fastest time in the 200-IM with a time of 2:04.57. Alex Burtch was victorious with a time of 1:54.82 for the Cardinal.

In the final event, the foursome of Aileen Cole (23.36), Lacey Bobo (23.73), Eszter Povazsay (23.61) amd Krissie Brandenburg (23.80) had the fastest time in the field. The men won their event when Matt Schlytter (21.09), Caryle Blondell (20.50), Kameron Chastain (20.61) and Alex Burtch (20.50) brought home the win in 1:22.70 to seal the win.
