Decker Snags NAG Record in 100 Breaststroke -- March 3, 2005

AUSTIN, Tex., March 3. EN ROUTE to a silver medal at the Texas 5A State Championships, Ben Decker took down a 26-year-old National Age Group record in the 100-yard breaststroke.

A 14-year-old freshman at Humble Kingwood, Decker sped 56.60 in the meet at the University of Texas. That swim erased the long-standing mark of John Moffet, who held the 13-14 NAG record since clocking 57.01 in 1979.

Decker finished second in the championship final to Scott Spann, who hit the wall in 56.05. Decker also helped Humble Kingwood to second in the medley relay. A member of Blue Tide Aquatics, Decker is coached by Steve Wilson.
