Texas' Sterkel Signs 3 More Swimmers to Letters of Intent -- May 28, 1999

AUSTIN, TX - Prep standouts Ashlee Fotinakes (Marietta, Ga. / Lassiter HS), Heidi Hendrick (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central HS) and Michelle Thomas (Marshfield, Mass. / Noble and Greenough School) have signed National Letters-of-Intent to enroll at the University of Texas and swim for women's head coach Jill Sterkel beginning in the 1999-2000 season, as announced by UT Athletics Director Jody Conradt.

The three recruits bring to nine the size of the 1999-2000 recruiting class assembled by Sterkel and head diving coach Matt Scoggin. Five swimmers and a diver signed with the Longhorns in November: six-time YMCA National Champion Emily Ballenger (Anderson, S.C. / T.L. Hanna HS), 1997 Spring U.S. Junior National Champion Erin Phenix (Cincinnati, Ohio / Ursuline Academy), U.S. Junior West Champions Amanda Gullick (Mira Loma, Calif. / Jurupa Valley HS) and Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif. / Dublin HS), and four-time Texas state qualifier Cybil Oechsle (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake HS). Scoggin also signed U.S. National Team diver Kristen Marquis (San Juan Capistrano, Calif. / Santa Margarita HS).
