New Hall of Famers -- May 8, 1999
America's Carrie Steinseifer and Russia's Evgeny Sadovy highlight the list of inductees at the 35th annual International Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremonies held in Ft. Lauderdale on May 7 and 8. Steinseifer won two gold medals at the 1984 Olympic Games, including a tie (with Nancy Hogshead) in the 100m free--the only tie in Olympic history. Sadovy was a triple gold medalist at the 1992 Olympics, winning the 200m and 400m free, and swimming on the Unified Team's victorious 800m free relay.
Other inductees: Adrian Moorhouse (Great Britain), winner of the 100m breast at the 1988 Olympics; Anne Ottenbrite (Canada), 200m breast champion in 1984; divers Falk Hoffman (Germany) and Kelly McCormick (USA); coach Ray Bussard (USA); Masters swimmers Kelley Lemmon (USA) and Maxine Merlino (USA); water polo player Mirko Sandic (Yugoslavia); synchro swimmer Kristen Babb-Sprague (USA); and contributors G. Harold Martin (USA) and Sebastian Salinas Abril (Peru).
