Georgia Amateur Athletic Foundation Files Lawsuit -- May 7, 1999

ATLANTA, GA - The Georgia Amateur Athletic Foundation, which initiated Atlanta's bid for the 1996 Olympic Games is suing to stop the state of Georgia from forcing it to open thousands of additional boxes of records to the public. The GAAF filed suit after receiving a letter from state attorney general Thurbert Baker, who threatened legal action if additional files were not opened. The state claims the files are of "overwhelmingly public nature" and show an "inextricable" link between private and government interests.
