Lenzi Retires -- April 9, 1999

Diver Mark Lenzi's comeback lasted only as far as his body would carry him - and that turned out to be well short of his goal of winning a gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games. Lenzi, 30, who won a gold medal on the 3m springboard in 1992 and a bronze in 1996, began his comeback in September. But a series of injuries, including torn calf muscles in both legs, and most recently a recurrence of a rotator cuff problem in his right shoulder, convinced him to retire.
