Money -- April 6, 1999

The number of U.S. swimmers receiving stipends from USA Swimming has been cut, forcing at least one athlete to cancel plans to compete in the World Cup meets. At the same time, Australia has stepped up its support of its top athletes.

Among the Americans who have lost grants or had them cut are Bill Pilczuk, Gary Hall Jr, Ron Karnaugh and Bobby Brewer.

Actual size of stipends for U.S. and Australia will be published tommorrow.
