Hackett Breaks 200m Freestyle World Record -- March 24, 1999

BRISBANE, Australia - Grant Hackett of Australia broke the oldest men's world record when he lowered the 200m freestyle mark set by Giorgio Lamberti of Italy. Hackett clocked a 1:46.67 on the first leg of the 800m freestyle relay at the Australian National Championships. Lamberti's previous record was 1:46.69, set back in 1989.
