Sheryl Crow Buys a Pool for Her Hometown -- August 9, 2004

Kennett, Missouri, August 9. WE don't know if it's because she used to be a competitive swimmer or because she's been hanging out with boyfriend and former swimmer, Lance Armstrong. You know, the guy who has decided he might have a better shot at athletic stardom riding a bike.

Whatever the reason, rock star Sheryl Crow is giving back to her hometown of Kennett, Missouri, by providing its residents with a swimming pool.

Last autumn, the "Soak Up the Sun" singer pledged to get a new community pool for the town, and while details of her financial involvement were not disclosed, the local chamber of commerce has put in a $250,000 grant.

The money is going towards building the Sheryl Crow Community Aquatic Center.

The pool is scheduled to open in May 2005.
