Caribbean Island Swimming Championships – Day Two -- July 4, 2004

KINGSTON, Jamaica, July 4 - THE SECOND day of the CISC saw an amazing 12 meet records fall and 4 Olympic B standards, per reports by Anthony Morrison-Vincent.

Trinidad and Tobago led the way with 3 records, as 7 different island nations had meet marks. Janelle Atkinson (Jamaica), George Bovell (Trinidad and Tobago), Kiera Aitken (Bermuda) and Nicholas Rees (Bahamas) accounted for the Olympic standards.

Atkinson led a Jamaican 1-2 in the 200 meter freestyle, at 2:05.67 with compatriot Angela Chuck at 2:07.68. The Olympic B standard is 2:06.07.

Pan -American 200 Freestyle champion Bovell lead from the beginning, splitting 54+ at the halfway mark. He seemed to be in cruise control when he slapped the pads in 1:51.54, well under the Olympic B-standard of 1:55.08 and the meet record of 1:54.97.

Kiera Aitken swam 1:05.25 in the 100 Backstroke, crushing her old meet record of 1:06.71 and slipping under the 1:05.54 B standard.

Rees accounted for the last B-standard in the 100 meter butterfly. The former Ohio State swimmer romped to victory in 56.02, winning by nearly 2 seconds and destroying the old meet standard by 2.94 seconds.

Jamaica ended the session with an additional 5 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze with Janelle and Alia Atkinson and Brad Hamilton the main precious metal miners.
