Inky De Bruijn, Libby Lenton May Go Up Against Each Other in Monaco -- May 7, 2004

By Craig Lord

MONTE CARLO, Monaco, May 8. LIBBY Lenton, of Australia, and Inge de Bruijn, the Dutchwoman whose world 100m freestyle record she broke in Sydney in March, may meet at the Monaco leg of the Mare Nostrum Tour next month.

A spokesman for the Monagasque Swimming Federation confirmed today that both women had been entered in the 50 and 100 metres freestyle at the Monaco meet. However, the Dutch Swimming Federation said that a decision on De Bruijn's participation would be taken "in the coming days."

"We're in daily contact with Inge's coach in the US and a decision is yet to be made." While Peter van den Hoogenband is due to race at the European Championships in Madrid next week, De Bruijn has not been entered.
