Phillips Academy Girls Win New England Prep School Championships

DEERFIELD, Mass., March 14. AT this year’s New England Prep School Championships, it came down to the wire for the Phillips Academy girls swimming & diving team.

During the night’s finals on March 6, the Phillips girls were never in first place until the final event, the 400 free relay. Before the 100 breast, Phillips was 4 points behind the first place team, Hopkins School (New Haven, CT). After the breaststroke, the team slipped to 5 points down. The Phillips coach, Paul Murphy, told the team’s 400 free relay team that they "simply HAD to come in first in the relay (the top 4 teams all had seed times of close to 3:40) in order to earn the 6 points needed to beat Hopkins."

The team of Erika Roddy '07 (San Francisco, CA), Katie Faulkner '06 (Homer Alaska), Kate Page '04 (Salem, NH) and Hee-Jin Chang '05 (Seoul, Korea) went 3:35.34 to set a new New England Prep record, win the relay and win the meet by one point.
