Koskue Kitajima Wins Slow 200m Breast in Tokyo

TOKYO, February 21. KOSUKE KITAJIMA, world record-holder in the men's (long course) 100 and 200m breast stroke, Kosuke Kitajima today competed in the 200 meter short course breaststroke at the Winter Tokyo Swim Meet held at the Tatsumi International Swim Center.

He won easily, but his time, 2:08.09, was mediocre compared with his own Jpanese short course standard of 2:06.00.

After returning from two World Cup meetsin Europe on January 21, his fitness level got lower due to jet lag and general travel fatigue.

"The race today showed an obvious lack of training," he said after the race.

In early March, Kitajima will travel to an altitude camp in Flagstaff, Arizona to regain his conditioning.
