Weir Named ACC Swimmer Of The Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md., February 2. MARYLAND junior Cynthia Weir (Irwin, Pa.) was named ACC Swimmer of the Week this week for her performance Saturday against North Carolina.

Weir won both sprint freestyle events with times of 23.26 in the 50 and a season-best 51.32 in the 100. She was also part of the winning 200-medley and 400-free relay teams. Her 22.70 leadoff split in the 200-freestyle relay automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships in the 50-free, and her 50.82 leadoff split in the 400-free relay was a 'B' cut time for the 100-free.

Maryland (10-0, 5-0 ACC) defeated the No. 15 Tar Heels Saturday 173-127 for only the second time in school history. The win assured the No. 19-ranked Terps of at least a share of the regular season ACC title. The victory also ended North Carolina's 13-meet conference winning streak.

The Terps return to the pool this Saturday, Feb. 7, when the host No. 17 Virginia for the final meet of the regular season
