Top Swimmers Recovering From Injuries -- October 20, 1998

U.S. National swim champions Kurt Grote and Gary Hall Jr. are recovering from recent injuries.

Grote, a student at Stanford Medical School, recently underwent exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. An MRI taken a few months ago had indicated he had suffered a stress fracture. The prescription: No breaststroke kicking for another month. However, he's doing a lot of hard pulling.

Hall was injured when the radiator in his car overheated, releasing steam that caused second-degree burns on his face, hand and arm. He has been recovering and is expected to return to training in Berkeley, Calif. next week.
