Tom Jager To Be Named New Head Coach at Idaho

By Phillip Whitten

MOSCOW, Idaho, January 23. SwimInfo has learned that Olympian and former world record-holder Tom Jager will be named the head coach of the new NCAA Division I women's swim team at the Univerity of Idaho later today.

A women's swimming team will be added to Idaho's athletic program beginning in 2004-05 so that the university can maintain its large commitment to its football program and come into compliance with the proportionality requirements of Title IX.

The University has kept its creation of the new swim program and its search for a head coach very low key, making few public statements and not responding to inquiries from SwimInfo. However, according to informed sources, there were 38 applications for the new coaching position, with the two finalists being Vicki Marsh, an Idaho club coach, and Jager.

SwimInfo welcomes the new team and Coach Jager into the collegiate ranks with our best wishes for their success.
